Best Home Humanoid Robots: What Ships Today vs. What's Still a Promise

Updated

Our verdict

No humanoid on sale in the US does housework on its own today. If you want one to learn on, buy a Unitree R1 ($5,900). If you want a chore robot, put a $200 refundable deposit on the 1X NEO and plan to subscribe at $499 a month, not buy at $20,000.

Which home humanoid robots can you actually order today?

Unitree's prices exclude tax and shipping. Its shop says shipping runs $300 to $1,200, and you handle customs and import duties.

Is the Unitree R1 worth buying?

Yes, as a programmable showpiece, not as a helper. At $5,900 it's the cheapest humanoid with a pre-rule FCC grant. Unitree lists it at 1,230 mm (about 4 ft) tall and about 29 kg, with 26 joints, a binocular camera, a 4-mic array, Wi-Fi 6 and about an hour per battery. The $4,900 R1 Air drops to 20 joints and a monocular camera. Unitree marks secondary development as EDU-only, so budget $10,500 if you want to write your own code.

Warranty is short: 8 months on the R1 and 6 months on the Air, per Unitree's page. An owner on r/UnitreeR1 who took delivery in 2026 said it "works quite well" but three of six dance routines on the remote didn't respond, and the box was heavy and awkward.

Is the Unitree G1 a good home robot?

No, it's a research platform. Unitree lists the G1 from $13,500, at 1,320 mm tall and about 35 kg, with 23 joints on the base model and roughly 2 hours per quick-release battery. The base model can't be programmed. Secondary development needs the EDU version.

Owner-reported problems collected by HumanoidApplications.com include about 2 hours of runtime, motor overheating under third-party controllers, firmware updates breaking SDK examples, and an ~8-month base warranty that requires shipping the robot to Unitree at your cost. IEEE Spectrum reported a Bluetooth exploit (UniPwn) affecting Unitree robots, including the G1. Keep it on an isolated network.

A third-party repair site links G1 manual pages to FCC ID 2A5PE-YUSHU008, a Unitree "Humanoid robot" granted March 3, 2025. We haven't confirmed that match ourselves.

Should you preorder the 1X NEO?

Put down the deposit if you want one, but don't plan to buy it. 1X lists NEO at $20,000 with a 3-year warranty or $499 a month, with a $200 refundable deposit. 1X's spec claims: 5 ft 6 in, 66 lb, a 154 lb lift, 22-joint hands, 4 hours per charge and 22 dB. 1X says US deliveries start in 2026. As of October 29, 2026 we found no confirmed customer delivery and no FCC ID.

The bigger caveat is autonomy. 1X's Expert Mode lets a 1X employee drive NEO remotely for tasks it can't yet do alone. The Wall Street Journal's October 2025 demo was fully teleoperated, and Notebookcheck's write-up found it could vacuum but couldn't crack a walnut. Read our 1X NEO guide for the privacy details.

When can you buy Figure 03?

Not yet, and Figure hasn't said when. Figure's October 2025 announcement says Figure 03 is "designed for Helix, the home, and the world at scale," with soft textiles, wireless charging and palm cameras. Those are company claims. Figure lists no price and no order page as of October 29, 2026.

Does the FCC robot rule affect home humanoids?

It affects the next models, not today's R1. The FCC's July 2026 order (DA 26-786) added foreign-produced robotic devices, humanoids included, to the Covered List. Unitree's R1 was authorized before the deadline, so it can still be sold and updated. A future Unitree model would need a Conditional Approval first. 1X says it builds NEO in Hayward, California, but it still needs an FCC authorization before it ships.

FAQ

Can I buy a humanoid robot for my home today? Yes. Unitree sells the R1 from $4,900 and the G1 from $13,500, before shipping and duties. Neither does chores out of the box.

How much does a home humanoid robot cost? From $4,900 (R1 Air) to $20,000 (1X NEO purchase), or $499 a month for NEO.

Has the 1X NEO shipped yet? We found no confirmed customer delivery as of October 29, 2026. 1X says 2026, which is a company claim.

Can a home humanoid do laundry or dishes by itself? Not reliably. NEO's Expert Mode uses remote 1X operators, and Unitree's consumer models run preset motions.

Are Unitree humanoids legal to sell under the FCC robot rule? Models authorized before July 2026 can still be sold. The R1's grant is dated June 22, 2026.
